Tasting Note

87  2007 Maius  Barranc de la Bruixa  Priorat  (Joseph Gomez Puig)   11/2/11 ($20)

mostly Garnacha with some Carignan and a little Cabernet Sauvignon    13.5%alc
Color: Medium red and black cherry. (2.5) Bouquet: Ripe red and black plum and stewed cherries. A little smoky with black licorice. (2.5) Body: Very good fruit and acidity with some elegance and a rich mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Richer than the bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Has a bitter edge and could be longer, but does show some interesting old vines character. (2.5)
Overall: An interesting and tasty old vines Garnacha. In a ripe style with stewed plum and cherry. Could use more concentration, distinction and structure, but shows elegance. Different. If you want to experience a similar wine that is better in my book, go with the Las Rocas Vignas Viejas. (13.5)
