Tasting Note

87   1996 Marquis d’Angerville Volnay Champans   2/15/04($40)

Color: Medium black burgundy with quite a bit of onion skin for its age.(3.0) Bouquet: Complex combination of Dr. Pepper, cinnamon and mint with other forestal nuances.(3.5) Body: Still has good acidity and some tannin, but lacks fruit. Still a solid middleweight.(2.5) Flavor: Not nearly as interesting in the mouth as the bouquet. Straight forward Burgundy complexity with a dry edge due to lack of fruit.(2.0) Finish: Lies somewhere between the interesting bouquet and the dull flavor. Relatively long but could have more of everything, particularly fruit.(2.5)
Overall: An enjoyable Burgundy, but nothing more. Disappointing for the appellation and price.(13.5)
