Tasting Note

92   2013  D'Angelo  Canneto (I.G.T. - Basilicata)   12/26/17  ($26)

100% Aglianico    13.5% alc, 30-40 yr old vines, 1400 ft elevation
Color: Deep red-brick garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Smooth, cedary cigarbox complements dusty cherry fruit with baking spice nuances. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins underneath. Coats the mouth beautifully. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more charming and expressive with racy fruit and sweet French oak to the fore. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, long, elegant and savory. (3.5)
Overall: An excellent Aglianico with dusty cherry fruit and cigarbox, almost Tuscan Sangiovese like, on a very solid middleweight frame with an excellent balance of fruit, acidity and smooth tannins. The flavor and finish show a lot of charm with racy fruit and sweet, spicy oak nuances. Drink now and in the next few years. (16)
