Wines of the month - Paul DeRose

PCWC October Wine Tasting

The Potomac Chase Women's Club (PCWC) held a wine tasting in October with yours truly presenting the wines. This tasting was meant to be an introduction to a variety of wines of different styles that deliver excellent quality for the money. For those of you who were not able to attend (or if you just like a recap), I have listed the six wines in the order served with a basic description of each.

WHITES:

2004 Glatzer Gruner Veltliner (Austria) $ 12
Medium body with refreshing tart apple and mineral flavors

2006 Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand) $ 10 *
More body than the first with lots of lemon/lime fruit and grassy meadow flavors

2004 Belvedere Chardonnay (Sonoma) $ 13 *
Sweet tropical fruit cocktail with some butterscotch.


REDS:

2005 Domaine Boissieu Beaujolais-Villages (France) $ 12
Lively and minerally with tart raspberry fruit, easy drinking and a versatile food wine

2005 Drei Dona Notturno Sangiovese (Italy) $ 12
Full bodied with concentrated cherry fruit, pistachio and good structure

2004 Domaine des Cantarelles Syrah/Cabernet (France) $ 14 *
Full bodied with blackberry/cassis fruit and some earthiness, similar to a Bordeaux
