Tasting Note

94  1993  Comte de Vogüé  Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses  12/18/10 ($100)

   13%alc
Color: Deep garnet with some onion skin around the rim, but still surprisingly young looking for 17. (3.5) Bouquet: Elegant wet leaves, raspberry, pomegranate and veal broth with excellent acidity. (3.0) Body: Excellent acidity and fruit concentration on a solid middleweight frame. Rich, silky mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with rich old vines fruit (raspberry and tart cherry) being more prominent. Very elegant. Solid mid-palate with a lively tang. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with tart acidity and old vines fruit lingering hauntingly. Could be more complex here. (3.0)
Overall: An outstanding, mature 1er Cru Chambolle, showing class and silkiness combined with concentrated old vines fruit. Multi-layered raspberry, tart cherry and pomegranate fruit combined with wet leaves and veal broth complexity. Still on the early side of peak and could improve in the next 10 years. A Pinot Noir this good is well worth $100, but is it worth $400+??? (16.5)
