Tasting Note

91+  2007  Viticcio  Chianti Classico Riserva  12/30/10 ($25)

   13.5%alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Dark cherry and blackberry fruit with excellent acidity and some animal fur. (3.0) Body: Rich, lively mouthfeel with excellent acidity and fruit. Also some tannin. Light heavyweight. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more open and distinctive with black licorice and a concentrated Merlot component. (3.5) Finish: Long finish of rich black cherry and vanilla nuggat with some spice and game. (3.0)
Overall: A rich, delicious CC Riserva with excellent black cherry fruit and vanilla nuggat with some spice and game. It's ready to go after about an hour of air, yet has the structure to stay this good or even improve in the next 1-4 years. I taste a significant French Merlot component in this that moves somewhat away from classic Sangiovese character, but then CC has never been all Sangiovese. Maybe it should be? But this is a delicious, modern style. (16.0)
