Tasting Note

91+(?)   2012  Villacreces  Pruno (Ribera del Duero)   5/30/15  ($19)

90% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino), 10% Cabernet Sauvignon   14% alc
Color: Very deep purple garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Coffee beans, dark chocolate and dense blackberries and blueberries. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and tannins. Rich mouthfeel that coats. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more forward and tasty. (3.5) Finish: Excellent length with racy, youthful acidity. A little fierce, needs time. (3.0)
Overall: Smells like Sunday breakfast with its coffee beans, dark chocolate and dense blackberry/blueberry jam. The flavor in the mouth is even better. It does have fierce youthful acidity and significant smooth tannins that need time to integrate and smooth, but very tasty even now with a decanting. I'd guess that it needs 3-6 years to be at its best. Amazing value! I'd compare it to Numanthia Termes, but I find this to be more interesting for a few dollars less. (16)
