Tasting Notes

86   2008  Villa des Anges  Cabernet Sauvignon (Languedoc) 4/16/10 ($10)

      13.5% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Stony gravel and dried herbs with cassis fruit. (2.5) Body: Viscous and tannic. Light heavyweight. (3.0) Flavor: Very herbal with dry tannins and very good acidity. Could use a little more fruit. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with a touch of heat. (2.5)
Overall: With all the internet hype on this wine following the 89pt Parker score, I was expecting more. With that being said, I like its weight and tannic structure for the price. It could use either more elegance (Old World) or more forward fruit (New World). Also a little too much Provencial herbs for my taste, but more devout fans of Southern French wines may enjoy these flavors more than I. Has the structure to improve in 2-5 years, but does it have the fruit. I personally would suggest some of the Cabernet/Syrah blends from this general area, such as those from Bobby Kacher and others, as better alternatives. (13.5)
