Tasting Note

89+   2007 Veritas  Vintner's Reserve (Virginia)  11/7/09 ($25)

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot
Color: Medium raspberry. Can see through. (2.5) Bouquet: Cedar, black cherry and cassis. Sweet, smooth fruit with richness, but not big. (3.0) Body: A middleweight that coats the mouth somewhat with lively cedar and excellent acidity with some tannin complementing. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with excellent acidity lifting up tart cherry and a subtle spearmint component. Very tasty. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but a little acidity is sticking out. Not big, but long. (3.0)
Overall: Well balanced with cedar-infused tart cherry-cassis fruit and excellent acidity. Also some interesting herbal nuances underneath. This should be excellent with 1-3 years bottle age. But very tasty and food-friendly right now. This is the best dry red I've tasted so far from Virginia from my limited experience. (14.5)
