Tasting Note

88   2007 Veritas  Claret (Virginia)    8/29/09 ($17)

50% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot
Color: Medium purple-black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Smoky cherry fruit (very CabFranc) with very good acidity and balance. Charming. (3.0) Body: Middleweight with very good fruit and acidity. Well balanced, but for now drinking. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with length, but could be more distinctive and concentrated. (2.5)
Overall: A Cabernet Franc-based Bordeaux blend that is very good, just as enjoyable as their more expensive Cab Franc Reserve. The latter has more weight and structure, but this is better balanced and has more attractive, youthful fruit.
The best buy in their line-up. (14.0)
