Tasting Note

88   2006 Veritas  Cabernet Franc Reserve  8/14/09 ($29)

  12.5% alc
Color: Medium purple-black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Black cherry and black raspberry fruit with nuances of basil and white pepper. Very good, but restrained. (2.5) Body: Solid middleweight with very good fruit, acidity and tannin. Rich mouthfeel. Big for VA wine. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more concentrated with some cedar and tart black raspberry jam. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but less concentrated. (2.5)
Overall: Very good Cabernet Franc with excellent concentration for a Virginia wine. Black cherry fruit stands out with an herbal, basil-like nuance, making it interesting. A more extracted style, not as classic as the Barboursville, but just as good in its own way. Could improve in the next couple of years.
