Tasting Note

91           2002 Verget Pouilly-Fuissé 11/24/04 ($24)

Color: Pretty light gold that is deep for Macon. (3.0) Bouquet: Dusty stones with licorice, sea salt and chicken broth. (3.0) Body: Powerful, with tart, chalky acidity and fruit to meet. Delicious now, but will age well for 2-3 years. (3.5) Flavor: Lemon fruit propelled by acidity and stony Macon terroir. Also a rich licorice component. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor step-for-step with excellent length. (3.0)
Overall: The best Pouilly-Fuissé I’ve had in years. It has the usual Macon soil, but classier than usual. Also has a concentration of acidity and fruit that balances out the terroir. Very impressive for the appellation and will improve in the next 2-3 years. (15.5)
