Tasting Note

91    2002 Verget Chablis Cuvee de la Butte    7/16/06 ($20)

Color: Silver and gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Light, spicy oak combined with lemon zest fruit and classic Chablis mineral terroir. Nice complexity and class for an inexpensive white Burgundy. (3.0) Body: Middleweight with excellent verve and balance, fruit-to-acid-to-terroir. Fresh, clean and interesting. Minerals coat the mouth. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with more intensity. Impressive concentration of fruit, minerals and delicate spice. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but not as intense. Still long for its size. (3.0)
Overall: Has surprising intensity for its weight and appellation. It also shows nice complexity, nothing profound, but there’s something lively and exciting here, particularly for the price. (15.5)
