86 2003 Trimbach Gewurztraminer 7/22/06 ($15)

Orange rind, pollen and honey nuances with a steely dryness and decent acidity complementing a slight touch of sweetness. Enjoyable, but has bitterness in the flavor and finish and is a bit heavyhanded and slightly awkward, all of this probably being a reflection of the hot vintage. Doesn’t have the balance and finesse of the 2002, but still much more restrained and well proportioned than the 2003 Zind-Humbrecht that I had recently. Of course, Z-H is not known for subtlety.
