Tasting Note

91   2014  Trimbach  Gewurztraminer (Alsace)   6/13/17  ($22)

   13.5% alc
Color: Medium yellow. (3.0) Bouquet Sweet honeysuckle, clover honey, pollen and lively mineral. Shows pretty intensity without being unctuous. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight, but light on its feet with excellent fruit and acidity. Rich, tangy mouthfeel that coats. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but shows more acidity to counterbalance the slight sweetness. (3.5) Finish: Long, but not quite as distinctive or intense as the flavor. (3.0)
Overall: Off-dry moving toward semi-sweet, this vintage is sweeter than the '12, which just had a (barely noticeable) hint of sweetness, but this is just as good. Has excellent acidity and minerality to balance and the honeysuckle, pollen and clover are distinctive without being heavy. Few Gewurz are as clean and pure as Trimbach's. Drink now and in the next 5 years. Another outstanding value. (16.0)
