Tasting Note

91   2012  Trimbach  Gewurztraminer (Alsace)   7/9/16  ($22)

   14% alc
Color: Pure silver yellow. (3.0) Bouquet: Pickled ginger, pollen and mineral water. Classy. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent fruit, acidity and spice. Beautifully balanced with a rich/tangy/smooth mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little more reserved. (3.0) Finish: Mineral and spice linger very nicely with elegance. (3.0)
Overall: This is classic Alsacian Gewurztraminer, a unique expression of the grape that is rarely copied successfully anywhere else in the world. The usual, concentrated pollen flavors are there in all their glory, but are balanced by excellent acidity, minerality, spicy pickled ginger and just a hint of sweetness, yet the finish is dry. Almost heavy, but elegant at the same time. The paradoxical nature of fine Gewurztraminer is evident in every facet of this wine. Outstanding value! (15.5)
