Tasting Note

88   2013  Trianguli  Pinot Noir (Danubian Plain, Bulgaria)   7/4/16  ($14)

   13% alc
Color: Medium deep black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Black cherry fruit with bright minerality and slightly smoky, gravelly earthiness. (2.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Well balanced with a silky/tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but the fruit is more juicy and forward. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with length, but not as distinctive. (2.5)
Overall: Bright black cherry fruit, lively minerality and even shows some elegance. What a wonderful value in Pinot Noir. It does show a hint of smoky, gravelly earthiness, but the juicy fruit covers it well in the flavor and finish. I've never had a Bulgarian Pinot Noir, at least none that caught my attention before. Reminds me of Sonoma Coast Pinot with subtle Chilean-like earth. Excellent value. (14.0)
