Tasting Note

90   2012  Terre Nere  Etna Rosso   1/31/14 ($17)

Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Capuccio     14.5% alc
Color: Medium black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Anise and herbal cough drop nuances over rich black raspberry and stewed cherry fruit. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Tangy mouthfeel that coats. Smooth tannins underneath. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with ripe black raspberry fruit more prevalent here. (3.0) Finish: Lively minerality and floral nuances join the flavors mentioned above. (3.0)
Overall: Another wonderful success for this outstanding value of a wine. More herbal than the last vintage, giving it a slightly rustic edge mixed in with its usual elegant complexity. This is made up for though with more weight and fruit. A consistently excellent wine, vintage after vintage. I wish there were more wines out there that consistently delivered this level of character at this price. (15.0)
