Tasting Note

90   2010  Cosimo Taurino   Notarpanaro Negroamaro Salento (IGT - Apuglia)   5/11/18  ($18)

100% Negroamaro  14.5% alc
Color: Medium deep brick red with some browning, but no clearing. Looks ready. (3.0) Bouquet: Stewed cherries and anise/black licorice fruit complemented by nuances of cedar and wet clay. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent flavor intensity, tannins and acidity. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with the mature fruit showing some sweetness. (3.0) Finish: Long, but shows bitterness from tannins and oak. Still interesting. (3.0)
Overall: An intense in flavor, somewhat austere Negroamaro showing the sweet stewed cherry and bitter black licorice that are characteristic of the grape variety. A serious Negroamaro that's built to age with plenty of tannins and cedar. Also shows rustic flavors of wet clay, animal fur and herbs. Pairs well with hard Italian cheeses, cheese-filled Southern Italian food and roasted meats. Drink now and in the next 5 years. Great value, but very distinctive stuff that is not for everyone. (15.0)
