Tasting Notes

91   2007  Storybook Mountain  Mayacamas Range Zinfandel (Napa Valley)  10/23/10 ($30)

  14.6% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Briary Zinberry (boysenberry and blueberry) with lively black pepper, bayleaf and a subtle top soil nuance. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit concentration and acidity. Coats somewhat. Some heat. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more forward with precise berry flavors and spice. (3.5) Finish: Similar to flavor with fruit and briar lingering, but not as giving and heat makes it a little austere at this point. (3.0)
Overall: A powerful Zin with a lot of spice and distinctive fruit that's particularly interesting for Napa Zin. Has some heat to lose, but still shows some elegance. Excellent right now, but could gain a point or two if the heat smooths out in the next 3-5 years. (15.5)
