Tasting Note

92   2009  Siduri  Van der Kamp Pinot Noir (Sonoma Mountain)   7/24/15  ($35)

  14.7% alc
Color: Medium red raspberry to black cherry with slight browning, but no clearing. (3.0) Bouquet: Pretty, rich/sweet black cherry with mint and subtle cooking spices. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit, balance and acidity. Silky/tangy mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more tart with subtle buttery oak in the mix, like a fine RRV Chardonnay. Fruit also gets slightly sappy here. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but more muted with slightly austere acidity. Still long and tasty. (3.0)
Overall: An outstanding, ready-to-drink, cool climate Sonoma Pinot. It tastes Sonoma Pinot in the best sense, but also shows surprising elegance and restraint for such a rich, delicious wine. At its best now. (16)
