Tasting Note

91    1996 Serafin Gevrey-Chambertain VV     6/12/04($35)

Color: Medium B robe. Looks pretty and quite drinkable, but plenty of life.(3.0) Bouquet: Rich forestal terroir with truffles, surrounded by red raspberry fruit with some spice from oak. Very aromatic.(3.5) Body: Well-balanced and rich with fine tannins adding spice and supporting the flavor. Well put together and ageworthy for a village wine.(3.0) Flavor: Tart raspberry fruit propelled by good acidity with truffles and a touch of oak.(3.0) Finish: Long, paralleling bouquet with truffles prevalent. Rich, but refined. After breathing(about 1 hr) sour acidity comes on, implying drink while fruit is intact and don’t breath it. Would score finish higher without this.(3.0)
Overall: Excellent, with room to improve, but wouldn’t push it beyond another year or so. This is a serious B from a high quality producer.(15.5)
