Tasting Note

92   2005  Serafin   Gevrey-Chambertin Vielles Vignes    8/27/18 ($50)

   13% alc
Color: Deep black cherry with no browning. (3.5) Bouquet: Black truffles, wet leaves and minerality are most prominent with black cherry and raspberry fruit meeting. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins. Tangy mineral mouthfeel with just a little astringency. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Long with minerality and lively acidity being most prevalent. (3.0)
Overall: An excellent village wine with outstanding structure and minerality, also shows nice nuances of black truffles and wet leaves. The fruit is still fresh and healthy, but could be more expressive and as expected, just doesn't have the distinction of their premier Cru vineyards. Still very enjoyable, food friendly and ready to go. Has enough tannins to go another few years, but does it how the fruit to improve? Drink now and in the next 3 years. (16.0)
