Tasting Note

93   2002  Serafin  Gevrey-Chambertin Corbeaux (1er Cru)   11/25/15  ($50)

   13% alc
Color: Deep black cherry with browning at the rim. Looks ready. (3.0) Bouquet: Black truffle and elegant forestal nuances uplifted by outstanding minerality. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight to light heavyweight with outstanding acidity/minerality and very good fruit. Tangy mineral mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Intense mineral with tasty, tart raspberry and red cherry fruit underneath (could use more). (3.0) Finish: Long, tangy minerals with more fruit.than the flavor and some spice. (3.5)
Overall: I love the mineral character of this vineyard combined with spice and elegant forestal nuances. The raspberry and red cherry fruit are tasty, but other vintages of this wine have shown more ('96 and '03 are two examples). Nonetheless, this is classic Gevrey-Chambertin from a very fine vineyard. I've never been disappointed by this wine. An outstanding value that should be drunk now. (16.5)
