Tasting Notes

90   2008  Seghesio  Sonoma County Zinfandel  2/19/10 ($23)

   15.5% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Spicy, briary black cherry and black raspberry with excellent intensity. Sweet and distinctive for the appellation. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Silky mouthfeel and coats somewhat. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet step-for-step. Rich and delicious. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but not quite as intense. (3.0)
Overall: Another delicious example of this bottling, showing impressive character and weight for the appellation. A suggested retail of $25 may seem high for Sonoma County Zin, but this one is well worth it. I like this '08 (WS 88) even a little better than the '07 (WS 93), despite the Wine Spectator scores, as this is just as delicious but a bit better balanced. (15.0)
