Tasting Note

92+  2007 Seghesio Rockpile  Zinfandel  9/21/12 ($35)

  15.6% alc
Color:
Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Rich, creamy black cherry and ripe black plum with cedar and briar. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with big fruit, excellent acidity and a rich, tangy mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.5) Finish: Shows heat and bitterness. Still long and tasty, but not as distinctive. (2.5)
Overall: Big, rich delicious Zin with loads of ripe black cherry and black plum fruit. Balanced by acidity and smooth tannins with briar and cedar nuances to make it more than just a fruit bomb. Decant for an hour and drink or let age for 2-4 years. Strikes me as being a little more ageworthy than the '06 Rosenblum Rockpile Rd. (the best Rockpile Zin I've had) and should grow into its shoes with time. (16.0)
