Tasting Note

93  2007 Seghesio Rockpile  Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)  12/13/09 ($35)

  15.6% alc
Color: Very deep purple garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Tart, very rich black cherry with some chocolate and briary spice. Very ripe, but balanced by excellent acidity. A touch of heat. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent acidity and fruit. Coats the mouth beautifully. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but richer and more delicious. (3.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet, but shows a touch of heat and bitterness. (3.0)
Overall: Big, delicious single vineyard DCV Zin at its best. A little young and fierce, but still well balanced and delicious. Can taste that this comes from the same vineyard area as the '06 Rosenblum with its old vines black cherry and chocolate, but this is not quite as ripe. They're of equal quality and both have a lot of exuberant fruit, but this is slightly more up my alley with a tartness that holds back the ripeness. (16.5)
