Tasting Note

88+   2006 Schumann Nagler  Christopher Philipp  Rheingau  Riesling  5/29/09 ($12)

11% alc
Color: Medium gold/light honey. (3.0) Bouquet: Excellent minerals, a little musky with white raisin and very ripe apricot and pear fruit. (3.0) Body: Middleweight with excellent fruit and very good mineral and acidity. Mouthfeel could be richer. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with caramel apple thrown in. Very tasty. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but apple flavors become more tart and less intense. Still has very good length. (2.5)
Overall: This is a very good, off-dry Rheingau, particularly for the price. Could pass for a $25 Kabinett. Has excellent fruit and minerality. It could be more elegant, rich and intense, but I really can't ask for more at this price. Drink now and in the next couple of years. (14.0)
