Tasting Note

88    2011  Santa Barbara  Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi     8/19/12 ($12)

100% Verdicchio    12.5% alc
Color: Silver yellow. (3.0) Bouquet: Mineral, tart pear, bitter almond, green apple and subtle herbs. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent mineral/acidity and very good fruit. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: A little short and not quite as distinctive, but pleasantly bitter quinine lingers. (2.5)
Overall: This delivers a lot of flavor concentration and secondary nuances for the price. Shows tart pear and green apple fruit complemented by almond, bitter quinine and minerals. Very food friendly, but has enough going on to be enjoyable on its own. A full-bodied summer sipper and beyond. This is their entry level wine. They also make the "Le Vaglie" bottling, which is a step up and well worth $5 more. (14.0)
