Tasting Note

87   2006 Rosenblum  Heritage Clones Petite Sirah    10/10/08 ($15)

Color Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Blackberries and black cherries. Sweet and delicious after 2 hours of air with good acidity and a touch of alcohol. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with good fruit and acidity, but lacks complexity and structure. Also surprisingly thin in the mouth. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but less attractive with fruit being somewhat over-ripe and one dimensional. Alcohol adds a little bitterness. Fruit is still tasty with briar and tobacco nuances. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with length, but fruit becomes a bit sickening here. (2.5)
Overall: Very good Petite Sirah for the price, with concentrated fruit, although somewhat one-dimensional. It has good acidity, but excuse me for asking for some solid tannins and toning down the super-ripeness. Not my style, but the quality is still very good. (13.5)
