Tasting Note

91  2006 Rosenblum Carla's Reserve  Zinfandel (Contra Costa County)  6/27/09 ($30)

14.9% alc
Color: Medium deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Ripe, tart black cherry. Excellent acidity makes it racy with briary old vines character and some basil thrown in. (3.5) Body: Coats the mouth beautifully with excellent fruit and acidity and very good tannin. Solid middleweight plus. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as rich or interesting. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with tart cherry and briar lingering. (3.0)
Overall: This is an interesting wine that is particularly restrained for Rosenblum, almost elegant. It has a lot of ripeness, but is balanced by acidity. Could be bigger and more concentrated, but excellent as is. Drink now and in the next 3-4 years. (15.5)
