Tasting Note

87       2005  Rosenblum Rockpile Road Zinfandel 5/17/08 ($34)

Color: Medium garnet with a hint of dark brown. (3.0) Bouquet: Bright cherry marred by alcohol, green oak and funky mint. A bit overripe. (2.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity and a little tannin. (3.0) Flavor: Very cherry and very ripe. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but some heat showing, not as much as bouquet. Still long. (2.5)
Overall: You can taste the quality in this wine and the very ripe fruit has its moments, but it shows too much heat and some awkwardly funky flavors at present. Although, I think there is hope that these will resolve with time, as it did get better with extended breathing. (13.5)
