Tasting Note

87+       2005 Chateau Roquefort         11/21/07 ($11)

14% alc  (from Entre-Deux-Mers)
Color: Very deep purple ruby. Can barely see through.(3.5) Bouquet: Cedar and a touch of earth complementing blackberry fruit. (2.5) Body: Mouthcoating fruit and tannin with excellent acidity. Light heavyweight with aging potential. (3.0) Flavor: Acidity propels fruit, tannin and cedar. Tasty, but also young and tannic. Needs 2-4 years. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with surprising length and persistence for the price. Young and tannic.(2.5)
Overall: A surprisingly strong showing for such a humble Bordeaux. This has concentrated fruit and ageworthy structure. It is not particularly complex and certainly not subtle, but still impressive for the price. Drink now with rich, red meat dishes or wait a few years and see what happens. It's hard to believe that this is mostly Merlot (90% or more) with its tannic core, but I'm not complaining. (14.0)
