Tasting Note

86  NV Roncier (L. Tramier et Fils)  6/28/09 ($8)

  12.5% alc
Color: Medium framboise. (3.0) Bouquet: Spicy veal and vegetable broth and black cherry. Clean and minerally, but muted. (2.5) Body: Lively, somewhat silky mouthfeel with very good acidity, minerality, balance and fruit. Light middleweight. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with cherry and raspberry fruit predominating. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with fruit and minerals lingering. (2.5)
Overall: What a charming red Burgundy for the price. It's light (but not too light) and lively with acidity driven fruit and some minerally terroir. Impressive character for the price that more than makes up for its light, restrained nature. Very food friendly and will appeal to red Burgundy and Beaujolais lovers. Tastes like a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay (no indication on the label). This is what the locals drink. I wish more everyday wines tasted like this. (13.0)
