Tasting Note

92+     1993 Ridge Monte Bello     9/22/07 ($55)

86% Cab, 7% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot 12.9% alc
Color: Deep garnet, can just see through. No onion skin to speak of. Looks a little young. (3.0) Bouquet: Blackberry fruit with cocoa, cedar, tobacco and excellent acidity. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight plus. It is acidity propelled with excellent fruit and just enough tannin. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet step-for-step. (3.0) Finish: Aaaah, here is where it turns on with great length and aromaticity. Concentrated with more structure showing. Delicious. (4.0)
Overall: This is outstanding, particularly for the vintage. It shows sufficient fruit, but could have more. The structure says a little young and I expect this to improve in the next 2+ years. It’s not the ’91. It is similar to the ’90 in style, but has less terroir. Still very fine.(16.0)
