Tasting Note

89+   2008 Ridge  Geyserville    12/1/11 ($30)

72% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 6% PetiteSirah, 2% Mataro  14.8% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Some Geyserville funk with cocoa oak and slightly candied Zinberry fruit. (3.0) Body: Tart acidity with good fruit. Acidity is a little fierce with a touch of heat. Solid middleweight plus. (2.5) Flavor: Has a wonderful gamy complexity to it with delicious, but restrained fruit. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with tart minerally acidity. Excellent aromatics linger, but needs time for the acidic bite to smooth. (3.0)
Overall: A complex Geyserville with minerality, funky game and herbs. The fruit is good, but slightly overshadowed by the austere acidity. Tasty and interesting, but needs time for acidity and a touch of heat to integrate. Decant a couple of hours for now drinking or give it 2-4 years bottle age. (14.5)
