Tasting Notes

92+   2007  Ridge  Pagani Ranch Zinfandel (Sonoma Valley)  4/3/10 ($32)

92% Zinfandel, 5% Alicante Bouschet, 3% Petite Sirah   14.3% alc
Color: Deep purple black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Loads of briary spice, black cherry syrup and boysenberry. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity and fruit and some tannin. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet but a little more restrained. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with spice-infused acidity and old vines complexity lingering. (3.0)
Overall: Outstanding old vines fruit and acidity-based structure. Concentrated, but elegant for its size. The flavor and finish are a little restrained at present, but this has the balance to improve over the next 4-7 years. Delicious already, just decant for an hour. The '06 was a fine Pagani, but this one shines even more.(16.0)
