Tasting Note

92    2006 Ridge Geyserville      2/22/09 ($33)

70% Zin, 18% Carignane, 10% Petite Sirah, 2% Mataro      14.6% alc
Color: Medium deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: A lot of spice (briar, bayleaf, nutmeg) and game with delicious forward cherries, blackberries and cassis. Very aromatic, propelled by excellent acidity. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and fruit. Very well balanced. Coats the mouth with fruit, spice and smooth tannins. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little less forward. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet with excellent length and complexity. Spice really lingers. (3.5)
Overall: Another outstanding Geyserville. This strikes me as being a little more immediately attractive than the '05, being even more complex and delicious right from the start. Nonetheless, this will likely improve in the next 3-6 years, but hard to resist already. (16.0)
