Tasting Note

91    2005 Ridge Paso Robles Zin     7/29/08 ($28)

100% Zin 15.2% alc
Color: Medium purple-smoky garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Boysenberry, black cherry, etc.(Zinberry) propelled by outstanding acidity. Very aromatic. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with very good fruit and intense acidity. Balanced, but a little youthfully fierce. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, with tart cherry becoming more prominent. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, with even more tart acidity. Long.(3.0)
Overall: Lots of Draper perfume and multilayered fruit with intense, tart acidity. Despite its youthful acidity, it comes off very nuanced with elegance. Give it a year or two or decant 1-2 hours before serving. This has become one of Ridge's most consistent Zins, although it usually does not quite equal Geyserville or Pagani Ranch, particularly in ageworthiness, warranting the $5 price difference. (15.5)
