Tasting Note

92    2005 Ridge Geyserville      11/27/08 ($18 - half bottle)

77% Zin, 17% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah       14.6% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Young and grapy with boysenberry and black raspberry fruit complemented by game and briar. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with a viscous mouthfeel. Excellent fruit, acidity and tannin. Structured, but also very well balanced with intensity. (3.5) Flavor: Tastes like gamy spiced meat with a mineral/earth tang. Solid mid-palate. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but even meatier with excellent length. Doesn't quit with briar and game lingering for nearly a minute. (3.5)
Overall: A beautiful, classic Geyserville! Has Zinberry fruit with intensity combined with game and briar, propelled by excellent acidity and some tannin. Excellent right now, but should be at its best in 3-6 years. (16.0)
