Tasting Note

90+    2004 Ridge Geyserville      9/11/07 ($32)

75% Zin, 18% Carignane, 7% Petit Sirah       14.9% alc
Color: Medium deep purple garnet and red cherry. Can see through. (3.0) Bouquet: Very briary with spicy oak complementing nicely perfumed red cherry and raspberry fruit with only a touch of alcohol. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and sufficient tannin complementing solid fruit. Could be richer and more mouthcoating (a little lean), but well-balanced. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. Very forward with more Zinberry nuances. Bright and lively. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor and has some persistence, but not big. (3.0)
Overall: Very solid, tasty stuff that is surprisingly forward for a young Geyserville (the new Ridge style?). It shows lots of spice, acidity and some of the Geyserville funk. It’s racy, but could be bigger and more structured, and should put on a little weight in the next couple of years. Similar to the 2001 in weight, hopefully this one develops as successfully. At its best in 2-4 years? (15.0)
