Tasting Note

93     2003 Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel     11/12/05 ($28)

90% Zin, 6% AB, 4% PS, 15.3% alc
Color: Purple, very young and dense. (4.0) Bouquet: Very ripe, fresh fig and plum concentrate. (3.5) Body: Coats the mouth with fruit like jam, but not an overabundance of tannin. Young, but drinkable with excellent fruit to acid balance and just enough supporting tannin. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more closed with some alcohol and youthful fierceness present. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but showing even less with more alcohol. Unformed and a bit obnoxious at this point. (2.0)
Overall: A very promising young Pagani Ranch with impressive fruit concentration, making it quite drinkable now, but needs some time to integrate. A solid excellent already. Should be as delicious as the 2001 with maybe a little less ageworthy structure. At its best at 6-8 years old? (16.0)
