Tasting Note

89    2002 Ridge Lytton Springs     7/4/04($30)

Color: Deep purple garnet with a touch of brown.(3.5) Bouquet: Cedary, briary and tannic with brown sugar and alcohol on top of Zinberry fruit.(2.5) Body: Powerful with some bitter tannins and alcohol sticking out a little.(3.5) Flavor: Rich and concentrated spicy Lytton fruit, but showing substantial tannin and bitterness.(3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but more bitter, making it less balanced. Still long.(2.0)
Overall: As is usually true of LS at this stage, it needs a few years, but I worry that this may have too much tannin and bitterness for its own good in the long run. Still very good with room for improvement.(14.5)
