Tasting Note

94+   2002 Ridge Geyserville  10/17/09 ($30)

 84% Zinfandel, 12% Carignane, 4% Petite Sirah   14.6% alc
Color: Very deep garnet. Still has a touch of purple. (3.5) Bouquet: Concentrated Zinberry fruit with some butterscotch and lots of briar. Flamboyant acidity and a little alcohol. Has an edge to it at present, mainly due to fierce acidity. (3.0) Body: Outstanding fruit concentration propelled by fierce acidity that's a little chalky. Significant, but well-integrated oak and excellent tannin underneath. A heavyweight. Rich mouthfeel that coats big time. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: More aromatic and expressive than the bouquet or flavor with great length. The fruit, game and spice go on and on and on. (4.0)
Overall: This is very impressive stuff, that's very giving considering that it's still in an intermediate phase. It teases you with some mature flavors, but in many ways it's still young. Its youthfulness being expressed by its flamboyant fruit and fierce acidity. The finish is already a knockout! This should just get better and better in the next 2-4 years. (17.0)
