Tasting Note

89     2001 Ridge Paso Robles Zin 11/5/05 ($22)

Color: Medium deep garnet with no sign of age. (3.0) Bouquet: A healthy dose of oak complementing ripe fig and plum fruit. Interesting, but a little bitterness from oak. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and spice, complementing ripe fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with class and fruit, but bitterness from oak is even more prevalent here. (2.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet, being more balanced and interesting than the flavor. Could be bigger, but still long with aromatic fruit. (3.0)
Overall: An excellent Paso Robles Zin that is a little over-oaked for me. We’ll see how it integrates with another year or two of bottle age. Could certainly deserve a 90-91 if all goes well. Keep your fingers crossed. (14.5)
