Tasting Note

95  2001 Ridge  Geyserville   2/19/11 ($30)

74 % Zin, 18 % Carignane, 8 % PS     14.4 % alc
Color: Deep garnet with no clearing or browning. (3.0) Bouquet: Classic, rich Zinberry fruit, but very elegant with old vines briar, game and musky complexity. A kiss of milk chocolatey oak. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and tannin. Perfectly balanced. Coats the mouth beautifully. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with even more briar and game, yet elegant and precise. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with excellent length. (3.5)
Overall: A great Geyserville in a classically structured, perfectly balanced style. Has game and briar complexity complementing delicious Zinberry fruit. Also has an elegance to it that keeps all the flavors singing without being the least bit heavy. I underrated this one early on. I thought the '02 was better, but now think that this is just as great, being both structured and elegant, compared to the bigger more fruit forward style of the '02. (17.0)
