Tasting Note

91+      2001 Ridge Geyserville           10/7/06 ($30)

74 % Zin, 18 % Carignane, 8 % PS 14.4 % alc
Color: Deep garnet. Still a little young with a slight purple tint. (3.0) Bouquet: High acidity, which is a little fierce at present, propelling multilayered Zinberry fruit with integrated toasty cedar and some gaminess. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity balanced with plenty of fruit, also more tannin than was apparent when first released. (3.5) Flavor: Blackberry, tart raspberry and blueberry with fierce acidity making it pungent (in a good way). Delicious, but still a little tight at present. (3.0) Finish: Long and delicious, paralleling flavor. Also has a lingering toasty, oatmeal component. (3.0)
Overall: A solid excellent that is just a little young. Delicious now after 1-2 hours in a decanter. Very well balanced with structure for aging. This needs 2-4 years to be at its very best. (15.5)
