92+ 2016 Ridge Geyserville (Alexander Valley) 11/11/18 ($38)
73% Zinfandel, 17% Carignane, 7% Petite Sirah, 3% Alicante Bouschet 14.5% alc
Color: Deep red garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Wild raspberry, cranberry, boysenberry and tart cherry fruit are complemented by cedar, nuts and minerals. (3.5) Body: A lean, light heavyweight with fierce acidity, excellent fruit and smooth tannins. Smooth, tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Tangy Zinberry fruit, minerals and briary spice are prevalent. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but needs to smooth and become more open. (3.0)
Overall: I really love the racy, red fruit propelled by fierce acidity. This vintage is outstanding, just like the last three, but is different and unique. Another outstanding Geyser that is not quite as impressing out the gate as the last two vintages, but should reward patience in the next 5+ years. If you admire lean, complex, red fruit-driven Zins, then you will enjoy this one. (16.0)
