Tasting Note

93   2014  Ridge  Pagani Ranch Zinfandel (Sonoma Valley)   4/16/17  ($35)

80% Zinfandel, 17% Alicante Bouschet, 3% Petite Sirah   14.8% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Musky old vines Zin fruit (cranberry, boysenberry, tart black cherry) complemented by briary spice. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity and fruit, Tangy mouthfeel that coats nicely. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, with intense yet somewhat elegant old vines fruit. (3.5) Finish: Long and tasty, but shows more fierce youthful acidity that needs a few years to resolve. (3.0)
Overall: Very tasty, fruit forward Pagani that needs a few years to show all its got, but drinks beautifully even now if you decant it for an hour or two. Drinks somewhere in between the big/structured '09 and the pretty/elegant '11. (16.5)
