Tasting Note

93+   2014  Ridge  Geyserville (Alexander Valley)   8/7/16  ($34)

60% Zinfandel, 24% Carignane, 12% Petite Sirah, 4% Mourvedre   14.6% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Funky earth, game, mineral, iron and spice garden nuances are prominent, complementing wild boysenberry and black raspberry. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with outstanding fruit concentration, excellent acidity and smooth tannins underneath. (3.5) Flavor: The wild berry fruit is even more expressive here with exotic herb and game complexity leading the charge. Wow! (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with excellent length, but needs time to totally form. (3.0)
Overall: The most complex Geyserville in a long time (a combination of the blend and the vintage) with outstanding structure and balance. Impressive already with a decanting, particularly if served with game. But I have high hopes that this will achieve greatness with 5-8 years bottle age. This one and the '13 are two of the best vintages of Geyserville in recent memory and it will be interesting to follow both as they develop. (16.5)
